Membership Requirements

Our chapter membership requirements support our mission of promoting the study and practice of accounting; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

FALL 2022 MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
The KU Lambda Alpha chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has the following three levels of membership:

  • Recruits – Recruits must not have completed one upper level accounting course beyond the business core (ACCT 425 or ACCT 320/323 or ACCT 325).
  • Initiates – Candidates for initiation must have completed at least 1 1/2 years of collegiate courses and at least one upper level accounting course beyond the business core (ACCT 425 or ACCT 320/323 or ACCT 325).
  • Members – Members are students who have already been initiated into Beta Alpha Psi.

Since a major objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence, the following membership requirements have been established:

  1. Initiates and Members must have cumulative and professional grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. Students with GPAs less than 3.0 can email Rachel Green (ragreen@ku.edu), Faculty Advisor, to see if any of the executive office alternative GPA options are satisfied.
  2. Initiates and Members must plan to major in accounting at the KU School of Business.
  3. Undergraduate candidates must have at least two semesters left until graduation. Students in the last semester of the undergraduate program may be candidates if they will be entering the MAcc program at the start of the following semester.
  4. Recruits must attend the initial chapter meeting, three professional meetings during the semester, one social event, complete one hour of community service and complete one hour of non-BAP professional development. More details on specific requirements will be available at the start of each semester.
  5. Members and Initiates must attend the initial chapter meeting, three professional meetings during the semester, one social event, complete two hours of community service and complete two hours of non-BAP professional development. More details on specific requirements will be available at the start of each semester.
  6. Recruits, Initiates, and Members must pay the required dues.
  7. Recruits, Initiates, and Members must attend the end of semester celebration.
